Take the time to study up on it and you will find it's not all that complicated. Like you I used to spend thousands because tech's aren't smart enough to actually diagnose anything. The final straw was when a shop changed every sensor plus the brain box and the instrument cluster in the dash and it still didn't solve the problem. That's when I decided I needed to learn how it works in order to actually get it fixed. So I started reading and watching videos and bought a code reader. Once I got a grasp on it I went out to the tuck and in 10minutes I found a corroded breaker. 4 bucks and it was fixed. Lesson learned, trained techs don't know ####.

I’m still a rookie but I’d like to say something. Your point is valid, however, in ANY occupation/business there are going to be a percentage of people who were, too ####y/uneducated/not savvy enough to prepare, and end up failing miserably because of it. The point still stands that 100% of people who succeed stuck their pickle out there and tried, the ones who succeed also happen to be the ones that put in all the leg work, time, and effort to understand their industry and set themselves up for success (or at least minimize the chance of failure), they were humble enough to take guidance from those that came before and have wisdom to share, they weren’t afraid of asking questions and possibly looking dumb, they were willing to do the extra things suggested, tough enough to persevere, and they WANTED it (to echo someone else). If you truly want it you will do all those things. I guess my point is successful people will be successful because they are willing to go the extra mile, people who aren’t willing to do that will never succeed; Regardless, every one who was willing to put the effort in had one thing in common... they got off their ### and did it.

Exactly, and that is why you have a great chance of success; I imagine you will do all of the extra work and go in with an actual understanding of what it takes, as will I. The problem here is grouping every one into a single category; Yes, there are guys out there who think it’s easy and will cut all the corners and they will absolutely fail. There are others like us who will put the time in to learn the industry, learn how to work on trucks, listen to people willing to share wisdom, and not lay down when the going gets tough. You can’t generalize entire groups of people. Also, be like the Rock, the hardest worker in the ####ing room.

Honestly, this is the wisest quote I’ve ever read on here, maybe even the entire internet.
You must be a fan of Marcus Aurelius, if not, pick up his meditations, you would enjoy that book I think.

Best thing about owning your own business is that you are always the last one to get paid and you can't fire yourself. lol
