I was looking maybe in another year of flat bed to move into some type of heavy haul work but is the headache of planned routes and permits and everything else that comes with it worth the money difference youd get for bieng a company flatbedder....id be looking into bieng a company heavy haul driver not an owner ok. Just looking for opinions maybe reccomendations on some companys to get my feet wet. As usual all helpful comments are appreciated.

I have done both. I enjoy heavy haul.....but I don't do it for the money.

I hate being yelled at by college educated brokers etc. Heavy haul tends to
attract better quality people......not always but as a rule you will work with a better
class of people. As a rule better quality equipment...….

But.... for every driver that enjoys heavy haul and succeeds at it there are likely
a hundred that tried it and failed or just didn't like it.

I would think your question probably depends on the company and what kind of heavy haul, more than anything else.

Ive only got 14 months flat bed. Like my earlyer post said i would wait another year and then kinda wanted to gradually haul bigger and bigger stuff. Would prefer to haul machinery. I haul alot of john deere stuff now and really enjoy it.

  8. Look into a flatbed company that has a heavy haul division. Then you can move up inside the company.

If u wanna do it then go for it... Dont let some of these ppl on here tell u u dont have enough experience or whatever... My advice look for a smaller company and try to work your way up ...check out transport national, they haul some big studf up around ur area

    Awol Thanks this.

If your company has RGNs and stepdecks on the fleet work towards starting as a "fill in"driver to pull one. This is a way to get used to pulling oversize if not too heavy. I moved a lot of Deere combines and tractors to Canada over the years and while not overly heavy can be up to 14ft wide. Some of the big 4 wheel drive tractors will be permit loads on even a tri-axle trailer.
Staying with your present company but expanding your experience while not job hopping will help you in years to come.
This is if you are happy were you are (if I read between the lines right).
