An HSA is for ANY medical expense. You can use it to pay for an office visit, prescription drugs, OTC drugs even eye glasses or contacts.

That has been tried. It had a heyday, but started to fade and most ended it. The big problem was not having a “pool” most people were put on as “individuals” making the premiums higher. How the policy is rated has a lot to do with it. One of the reasons the market place programs are quite high is the risk factor, and a small pool. Because the people who use them are higher risk for medical needs, leading to higher cost for the insurance company. They pass that cost to the smaller pool. Remember that these are FOR PROFIT companies, most with shareholders looking for increased value and incomes.

Number 1 reason for personal bankruptcies in the United States is due to medical costs.

The average cost of hospital stay for a minor to moderate heart attack is $140,000.
Minor to moderate is described as one where no open surgery procedure is required. Only procedures would be angioplasty and / or placements of arterial stents.

Heres the big question then- Lets say your around 55 ish- No health insurance- You have this "Mild" heart attack.......Do you tell the hospital "Just let me go,I have no Money.Ill just die" or........Pay the $140k for the rest of your life without enjoying any retirement?

Very Difficilt decision- Your lifes half over right?......Do you really need another heart attack from endless bills?

Ive seen it-Dozens of times where people say to let them expire or Go Home without any further treatment-

Rather Die than owe hospitals/Doctors etc.............Just Like people that Live off the Grid- They Feel Utilities and property taxes near urban areas are not affordable.......

They got the whole Container living thing going on now- Governments and state comptrollers and county assesors bureau will put a stop to that noise too..Just wait. They'll be paying taxes like most others

Only way to live "Free" in this country is out in the wild,Forreging for food , and serenity.

TThen everyone wonders why the average americans savings account is $5,000

In states where the state government did, what they were supposed to or should have done. It works as intended and is (not great) but pretty good. For the ones that didnt not so much.

It should be illegal today. That's a huge part of the problem.

I think living off the grid has more to do with self-sustainability where, assuming you can successfully pull it off, you are retired permanently. I’ve looked into it, and it’s very possible, but in order to be successful, you would need plenty of money and/or experts in areas such as real estate, home building, farming, knowledge of local/federal laws, and the know-how of self-sustainability. It’s all over YouTube, and apparently most fail.

It hasn't been tried in the last 50 years.

I am talking about "banning" employer provided health care. Putting all the onus on the individual instead of the government or a corporation. Let the individiual chose their plan, and let them see what the real cost is.

The system we have now is 70% socialised medicine. What is the difference between government arranged health care and employer arranaged health care?

    Look it up.

It's open enrollment. Plenty of quotes to be found.
