Bad deal and prayers for all involved.
The only reason there was not a 40 vehicle one evening in Denver was I slid by the on ramp and couldn't make the turn to get on the freeway, I wound up driving by it on the service road, it was luckily only a 39 vehicle pileup. Iirc a Dick simon truck turned over on top of one car.

Same article mentions that OH-8 saw an 85-vehicle pileup... Christ almighty. Some towing companies are going to see a real nice bump in their Q4 profits

This is pretty nuts. It's like when the season is over in Spring, you'd think people would have learned a lesson, apparently, like bugs in the winter, they forget all about it and it just starts all over again. It has to be distracted driving (duh) that it catches people off guard, because they just aren't connected to changing conditions, and with as busy as roads are today, and with 75 people doing the same thing, one loses it, and it's the domino effect. This is the price you idiots pay for having that phone stuck in your ear, for that all so important call they just HAD to make. Just can't get a grip on that. Vehicles get safer, roads get safer, and yet something as distracting as a cell phone is somehow ok.:biggrin_25526:
And don't say there are laws agin it, because that's no deterrent for that all so important call. They need some kind of phone disabling device the second the key is turned on. Wouldn't THAT frost their Kelvinator. Son of a gun, the mega pileups magically stopped.

I drive like a grandma in bad conditions and cringe when other drivers pass me going fast in thick fog or heavy snow. Never go faster than conditions allow.

Can't do that. It would affect an area around the truck by it's very nature, and that's on top of FCC rules re: harmful interference...

Cars get safer, i.e: cars do more FOR you so you're able to do more that isn't related to driving.
I haven't seen any of the roads getting safer, yet. If anything, the corners they cut trying to reduce their maintenance costs makes the roads less safe. Those 3' wide strips of new asphalt on the edges of old asphalt just leads to more tramlining (your tires want to follow the crease).
It doesn't matter how 'safe' they make things, though, because people continue to devolve. It's taken a lot of villages to raise this many idiots and no one seems to recognize that they are only adding to the problem.
To every car and pickup that rear ended the first vehicles in that pileup...you got what you deserved. To the truckers that became part of the incident after it was under way...I hope you lose your license. For all the people who got collected through absolutely no fault of their own...your (almost) all bald-faced liars.

Here's an idea. Instead of sitting on the side of the road filming footage, why not run up the road a 1/2 mile or more and try to signal oncoming traffic to stop?
