Thermo king reefer water pump leak

Any mechanic,it's very easy to to do on those units.Probably do it yourself.

 

Draincock for the coolant is under the starter.Put a hose on and drain coolant.Remove gear clamp from upper rad hose and pull hose off.Remove 4 ten mm nuts from pulley and remove pulley.Remove 3 12 mm bolts from water pump and gently pry pump off with a screwdriver at thermostat housing. Scrape old gasket off block.Swap thermostat to new pump and install new pump with new gasket that's supplied with it.Pour coolant back in system at coolant bottle.Run unit until thermostat opens and top up coolant.

 

Just keep your eye on coolant level and engine temp. I ran with a leaky pump for a week until I could get home. The leak probably looks worse than it is. I only lost about a gallon of coolant.

 

I never checked because I needed it right away. My guess is they would have to order it. You should be able to find one online if you can wait for it.

 

Go to Thermo king and ask for the updated water pump as this is supposed to be a solution for the head gasket failure issue on those engines.Also take a look at the coolant bottle,if it is turning black then the head gasket is failing. Good luck.
