I’ve noticed there’s a massive opportunity being missed in this company as far as overlap between the terminals. They all have tank washes nearby and I think they could kill a lot of dead miles by doing more backhauls.

My last Houston run I was lucky enough to get a load to Columbus ga on the way back. Why the system wouldn’t figure that out on its own is beyond me. Essentially they have on a regular basis trucks running overlapping routes if that makes sense.

Yeah, I agree. My guess is some drivers don't like spending nights out when they can make it back home in one shot (we lost some drivers due to being told they would be more otr running.)

Worked for TWT from 2004-2006 out of the Cowpens terminal before leaving for UPSF.

Has anyone run the Connecticut run? What is the best time/hazmat route to get around NYC?

Hey, I know this thread is almost a year old but just wondering if any of you are still w/ TWT? Have any of you been through the Channelview, TX ( Houston ) terminal? I'll be completing CDL school in December and I may have an interview w/ TWT at the Channelview terminal in the next week or so just looking for any insight?

Been with Tidewater over six years, running out of the Decatur, AL terminal. During that time I've been through the Channelview terminal several times, switching tanks, picking up loads, even done a few local loads in that area to help out the terminal manager there. Her name is Ruth. She's been there longer than I've been with TWT, and is good to work with. A few of our Decatur drivers get through there much more often than I do, but never heard of any complaints.

Thanks for this, I really appreciate the insight!

Do you happen to know how long the typical runs out of Channelview tend to be? The recruiter I spoke to seemed to be saying that most of the runs were out 2-3 days then back to the terminal? Also what are their trucks like? I see they seem to be mid-roof Volvos and I was told they were all automatics but how else are they outfitted? Do they have inverters? APUs or do they care if you idle the truck when stopped? Also what's the accessorial / layover pay like? I looked at the Channelview terminal on Google Earth and didn't seem like they had a tank wash so I'm assuming that has to be done somewhere else while you wait?

Don't really know about the way they run down there (2-3 days out, etc.). As for a tank wash, there's one about a 1/2 mile from that terminal...right down the street.
Volvo midroof tractors, automatic. Can idle all ya want, so no need for APU. Can get mechanics to install inverter, up to a particular wattage...at least at our terminal.
