“In most cases, trucking companies provide their drivers with about two-weeks vacation time a year—just like most careers do—but that number will usually go up once you stay with a company for a specified number of years.”
I have just been unfortunate to work with those who don’t the last 20 years,
Had two months notice of my last vacation coming up, to have the terminal manager go in the computer and cancel it.
So I went from vacation, to quitting, and made them pay me vacation pay, though the did make me wait the full 10 days by law.
I’m going to quote the terminal manager,
“You are only needed when there’s freight to be delivered, and we’ve picked up so I’m going to need you to work.”
This was after 4 1/2 years of working without taking time off except to go to my mothers funeral, which he took three days vacation from me because the company doesnt pay bereavement.BigDog Trucker, Fuelinmyveins, FlaSwampRat and 7 others Thank this. -

Vacation? HA.
Not happening. UNLESS you take it on your days off every so often.
We had not had a proper vacation since childhood. Even if we did where would we want to spend it? Not in the USA. Been there done that a few days at a time in the entire country.
To the poster whose term manager erased the computer etc I would have quit on the spot to his face. He can need all he wants but do it off some other doofus. Pretty selfish of him if you ask me.
Thats one of the big reasons why when I am out of that truck there is no way to get in touch with me at home or on vacation. What part of on vacation or time off do they not understand?truckdriver31 Thanks this. -
The company I worked at for about ten years had the standard for paid vacation, but we were allowed to take as much non-paid time off as we wanted up to six weeks per year. Anything over six weeks and we had to pay half of the insurance cost while the truck was parked.
truckdriver31 Thanks this. -

do you wanna be a trucker, or a banker?
this is your job (when you get one) and you just do it.
some companies give you 1 week after 6 months, some 1 week after 1 year.
some have a limit you can earn "Up to", then that's it, no more.
the object of the game here is, become a trucker, get a job, do your job SAFELY, earn your time off.
but to start looking for a job that offers time off, tells me, you really ain't into this industry.FlaSwampRat and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
nothing for aunts, uncles, cousins...FlaSwampRat and truckdriver31 Thank this.
