I am looking for information. I have several questions that I need answers to. What is the cost of hauling cars for hot shot vs the cost for a flatbed trailer? Which is more expensive to operate? Can you get contracts from dealerships or car auctions for hotshot? What is the best car hauling load board available ? What is the best place to shop for hot shot equipment? Does flatbed trailer loads offer contract deals available with companies or individuals ?
Which is better, car hauling or oil field equipment hauling?

    1. Hot shot cost .86 cpm, flatbed trailer is $1.07 a mile.
    2. Flatbed trailer, because it doesn’t work without a truck.

Can you be more specific? What do you mean what is the cost? The cost of equipment? The cost of insurance?

I haven't done flatbed but car hauling trailers tend to be more expensive than a basic flatbed. Insurance for an auto hauler is more expensive than a general freight hauler.

When I say flatbread I’m referring to a 40 ft gooseneck trailer that is for hot shot...

What he means is, owner-operators don't share information on where the money is. Don't want to make the slices of pie any smaller.

Thanks for clearing that up! My husband and I are team OTR drivers and looking into starting a hotshot business so we are doing our research and trying to find out which is the best option from real life people who are successful... but I guess there is always one in every bunch

You'll get a lot of good information on here about how to fix your truck, maintain same, what it might be best not to do, what some options might be that you could do. What you won't get is a silver platter with all the contacts, freight rates and/or best freight.

Hang around for a while, become 'known', show you're working towards your goal...you might get more than you've just gotten.

Lots of folks come and go here. Most want everything handed to them. As professionals, we eschew the entitlement mentality. You still have to do the lion's share even though there's a CDL in your pocket.

Understandable... maybe I worded my questions wrong, because I was by NO means looking for a sliver platter or anyone to give me their contacts... I want opinions on the different types of hot shots... 40 ft goose neck flatbed Or a car haul trailer. Which require more maintenance (expenses)... We wanted to know if car hauler contract out or is it always a load by load job?
We also want to know about experiences for anyone who car haul with a 40 ft trailer, does it work? How many cars can you get on one?
