Find out from manufacturer if 15/40 is ok I was told clearances were tighter hence the lower weight oil in my mx13 .. But it was a kw mechanic so could be false

I used to run whatever 15w40 oil was the cheapest in my KW. Started off with Rotella when I could find it on sale but then moved on to NAPA, WalMart, and Tractor Supply store brand oils. Ran samples on every oil change for years and they always came back good. Oil is oil. The brand doesn't matter. Just buy the cheapest that meets your engine specs and use it.

We hardly went out and bought a rotella T now and then when it was a little bit short.

We have heard ZERO push back from shop having used that stuff in anything from mint virgin trucks with a few miles on them to a million or two million plus trucks. As far as the gauges were concerned it's a happy engine correctly running the temps, pressures etc.

One time the fill cap failed on a mountain pull and we puked three gallons out. It made it to the top on what was left at the bottom of he crank case. Poured in three gallons, capped it and ran more months down the road without thinking about it. Much.

I also use 0/4w40 only Rottella T6 synthetic only, i buy 5 gallon pails from Canadian Tire, 130-150cad/pail, plus 100$ for volvo filters+aprox 100cad for my shop oil change/lube fee.

walmart 15-40 every 10k miles on a 2009 isx with 860k. I don't need long lasting. I just need to keep the carbon down.

Some oils are asphalt based and others are paraffin based. The 2 together are awful!

I have an 09 isx with a shade over 1.1million and 30k hours. It’s had rotella 15w40 its whole life and oil samples come back great. I change every 15k or 500hrs. The last two oil changes crept to 17k miles.
I’m going to try Schaeffer’s on my truck that is supposed to arrive anytime and do longer intervals. 10w30 in an x15 efficiency engine.

I wasn't aware of the actual materials involved, but I've seen the results under valve cover gaskets in a couple cars whose owners mixed a lot of different oils over a few years. Thick, black, crusty jelly.
