Solo straight truck question

i did big truck once. its a rat race. pays really well when the roads are closed

 

This is the field I'm looking to do and have already made steps. First you need to spec a truck out that maximizes the limited length we can run. Also you need to think about your payload. A single axle straight truck will only Grant you maybe 5 to 10 ton depending on your axle / tire setup. That's respectable but not a lot when you are dealing with limited load options. I'm building out a truck that will have a gvwr of 50k lbs and will have a payload capacity of about 15 maybe 16 ton. But again because of size restrictions, I'm only able to fit a 28 foot flat bed.

The key to being successful is by makeing contacts with shippers/recivers as well as brokers. Find people that would use the equipment you choose. Because it's not a 40' flatbed or anything of the such, you will be limited. The hope I give my self is I looked around in the highway and see what other people are hauling. If you see something and say to your self "I can haul that", make a note and trying to find where you can go and make contact to do that.

Now obviously I'm just speaking from what I know and think but in the end I'm like you. I don't know if it will work out. Not a lot of people do straight truck flatbed hot shot and it's probably for a reason. I have my reasons on why I want to try it but its scary to think about some times

Now if you are talking about expedited dryvan. That's a whole different world. I don't know much about that

 

Yeah that's the goal. It's gonna be a little while before I get going. Work is slow right now and I'm trying to save up as much cash as I can before dropping coin on a truck. I'll be sure to document my adventure here when I do since it's pretty uncharted territory. My hope is with the determination I have, it will go well. But again. A huge risk.

What's your goals or concerns with your idea?

 

Well this would be the happy medium. Plus can be done under a cheaper class b license
