Are you guys talking about the little cards that you use to fill out yourself and get your buddy to sign?
But no you don't need it anymore and Canadian drivers have not carried 1 for years in the US with NO problems. So the system does work, if you have a ''legal'' cdl then your medical is current.

The level 2 inspection I had last month in Mt Pleasant, Tx, the officer just checked my permit book, scanned my license, and I seen where it said on the computer screen “Med Cert=Valid”

    Oxbow and MYSTYKRACER Thank this.

It’s the same way in Georgia
The state keeps up with the card info and the doc that did my exam had to enter the info into the state website
But then I had to submit a copy of the card to the state AND carry it around

BTW the easiest and fastest place to get the med exam is at the minute clinic at CVS pharmacy stores

    dwells40 and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

He's looking to go local so he won't have one to put it in. Well I guess he could but I know I don't take anything but my lunchbox and water bottle on the truck with me so I imagine that's the way he would want to be also.

Pretty sure you can file that firmly in the "urban legend" category.
