Truck Stop Designs

Go to a few right about dark and watch the show. Especially go to a tight pilot in a busy area about that time. Then you will see first hand what works, what doesn't and what is just plain stupid.

 

If possible to I would also take another look at showers. I won't buy fuel at a joint that I can't get a shower at and even if I don't need fuel I choose a stop based on if need for a shower or not. Showers are what gets a guy like me to enter your building and spend money. Without them I may as well just park at the customer or a rest area and eat in the truck.

 

In my case it's park truck, clock out, go home every day lol. We have one of those big mobile fuel service trucks that comes every night and tops off all the trucks.

 

I don't understand the difference between fuel, park and park, fuel.

Does "park" specifically mean to find a place in the lot to park or does it apply any time a truck stops and sets its brakes?

Am I considered parked whilst fueling or only after fueling is completed and I have pulled forward of the fuel pump and have set my brakes?

 

I fuel, pull up, enter store.

 

Yep. That's the sane, logical way to go about it.

 

Im no expert but i would take it back about 40 years. Full service gas station attendants fuel the truck, pull it forward or to a designated spot while driver does his business inside. Keys,
Receipt, and truck location (either close to the pumps for those moving on or on the lot for those staying) sitting at the counter for the driver. Get some golf carts to shuttle drivers that are staying the night from the store to their truck in the back 40. Put multiple fully plumed bathrooms and showers with electronic locks and daily changed codes on the lot and pay someone to keep them clean. That way Johnny Jake Break has no excuse to piss by his back tire and make your whole lot smell like a hot urinal. Get a Water truck and use it to wash the lot at non peak times for the exact same reason. Hire full time security to keep the lot lizards and thieves off the lot. Have decent reasonably priced food with healthy options in a sit down dinner short order environment, not just a deli case full of fried ####, some drivers want to live past 65. Have more than 2 washers and dryers and make sure they always work. Single direction easy to follow traffic to improve flow. Separate the 4 wheel traffic from the the big rigs. Now i know absolutely non of this would ever happen because its all about the bottom line to the company and maximizing profits. But it would be nice to see a place that actually treated drivers good instead of just seeing them as dollar signs.

 

I started driving back in 1969 and believe me it was always a pleasure to stop at any truck stop. From Mom & Pops to TA, 76, Pure they all respected and thanked the drivers. Great food in sit down 24 hour restaurants, fuel and clean your windows, driver specials and free parking. No more because the stops answer to stockholders and the bottom line and could care less about us even though they need us to survive.
