Finance companies don't install the device.

The dealer does. Buy here pay here.

And it's still done around here.

I would imagine cmv's having something though. Considering they go cross country. They get repo'd somehow.

I bought a couple trucks through Richie Brothers a few years back and as my local tech guy were going through them to remove the qaulcomm, radios and install the stuff we need in the trucks. He discovered each truck had a tracking devices and starter interrupters that were active and reporting back to someone.

I had him yank them out and send them to me.

The cops showed up to his shop a couple days later, they were flagged and someone at lender who had them repossessed called the cops to claim they were stolen. It took a few days to get it all straight and the detective had a good laugh after I told him he can charge me with a crime - hindering a secured creditor - by removing the equipment.

I get why they were installed, this was a high risk loan the owner defaulted on, the trucks were parked for a long time before they took them back but they never cleared the info out of the monitoring company's computer and when it went dark it popped up on the screen.

You’ll be alright they won’t look for it call your lender and let them know what’s going on first they’re not going to say oh that’s not good give us the truck back.. trust me they don’t want it.

I am with AModelCat. When you hear hoofbeats, it might be a Zebra, but in all likely hood it is a horse. Any reasonably competent mobile mechanic should be able to get to the problem quickly.
