So, I parked my flat and bought this dry van . My experience

Load unload is a separate fee I ask for and you always ask for 100 percent of that..just took trade show from dallas,tx to boise,id... 10,000 lbs.payed 6300.00..load time was 2 hours,unload time was 2 hours...detention time i give the agent first 2 hours..after that i get 90 to 120 per hour...lift gate usage is 350.00.

 

More importantly, is the 4 a mile to the truck, or is that gross before his carrier takes their%.

 

That was to the truck..then 350.00 for liftgate 100%..my blankets bars and straps was 350.00 @ 100%.only used 5 bars and 10 blankets and 4 straps.tradeshow was a opera set.so getting alot of 100% to you no matter what load you pull is a plus

 

Ya trade shows can pay very well. The problem I've ran into when doing them is how much time they take waiting for your turn to get in the building. That and those older convention centers were not designed for a long wheel base set forward axle truck.

 

Super sleeper trucks get in with a little work,in Vegas and Chicago it can get tight...so for 25 bucks single axle truck takes your trailer in and brings it out mty with all your equipment. It's not all that bad.money is good.also machinery loads for the Van's pay about the same.

 

Hope all goes good whichever way you decide to go..you will be just fine.the key is getting a list of good agents and work with them,if they dont have anything then hit the load board.Happy holidays to you and your family

 

Just remember new trucks are being turned in left and right..they are in the shop more than on the road..if you own your own trailer and you breakdown then it opens up a new bag of worms...then it's time to negotiate the cash with a power only truck..

 

I think the new trucks being turned in are more because they can’t pay for them with the depressed rates than “being in the shop “ When everybody and they’re brother went out and bought a truck in 2018 when the rates went
Crazy , they thought they would only keep going up , but they plummeted with all the new trucks and over capacity. They can’t make that big truck payment on $1.25 a mile loads.
The “ being in the shop” might have been true for 2008 - 2015 year emmision trucks . We had a nitemare with a
2012 W9 with an ISX in it . Fast forward to 2019
We have a couple of Kenworths and Peterbilts
2018-2020 with Paccars and Cummins X15 engines and so far very reliable . Our 2019 KW with the paccar just turned a year old and 115k miles and has only been our shop for PM’s and has never been back to the dealer yet. It also averages over 6mpg hauling 100k lb plus gross loads up hills most of the way. We were lucky to get 4.2 mpg doing the same work with the 2012
with the ISX and constantly at the dealer with
DEF/DPF issues. I think the engine manufacturers are finally figuring the emissions systems out.

 

In a situation like this would a reefer trailer be smart ? Since you could haul van loads too right ? Or would that be a No No ? I've only done tanker and Every one I know is tanker or flatbed.
