That’s only a V16 so I’m sure a truck with less than half the motor and pulling a trailer could for sure do half that down the interstate too. Lol

The Freightliner I was issued had been able to feed fuel until 116. Then there is the momentum downhill if you timed it. 130+ was common. Cross PA in 3 hours on 80. I have told about this many times. Ive no interest in records or all of that. This was in the days of the mid 90's just prior to the new speed governor and restrictions by companies.

I am big enough to take the teasing. No problem. But those dollar days are history. Ancient history.

It’s mostly physics and wind resistance that wouldn’t allow that. The screen grab below is from 2010. 2000 hp and nearly 3700 ft of torque to go 155 in a single axle truck.

@Long FLD wind resistance is a huge problem when trying to go fast. I had built a 800hp 2wd reg cab ram and when we took it to the Ohio mile it couldn't do over 146mph. Still had gear and good rpm to go but it just couldn't move the air in front of it any faster.

It used to be about 310 miles across PA?

It is very possible to hit 115 mph on a steep downhill, but crossing I-80 in PA (310 miles) in 3 hours and on a semi truck is just not possible. Now, 4 hours may be possible on an empty trailer, and 3 hours can be done on a racing car.

adayrider, JMon and FlaSwampRat Thank this.
