Truck Wash - Memphis

Why waste your money and time washing a company truck? Sure I know about taking pride in your ride, but why?

Save time, money and grief and don't do anything special for this company. As far as the messages, no, this seems very normal for Knight, nobody has any idea what the other hand is doing.

 

Truck washes are an essential asset in the trucking industry. It helps protect the truck (how many trucks do you see with rust?) and provides a good first impression when going to customers. Also, when you roll into a scale with a nasty, grimy dirt truck, and I roll through with a shiny, clean sparkling truck, who is the DOT going to look to inspect first?

I wash my truck at least once a month on my own if the company won't do it. If it helps me avoid issues and makes me look more professional it's worth the $40.

Helps protect THEIR truck, so they can bloody well pay for it. I don't care about DOT, I run clean books and keep the stuff from falling off as much as I can, so I don't sweat scalehouses.

 

Well you definitely sound like one of those "entitled" steering wheel holders who think the company should kiss the ground they walk on. Good luck with that. That's going to get you far in this industry.

 

That stuff about clean trucks at the scale is the biggest line of horse hooey companies have handed drivers. Had one company truck that I was proud to have never washed in the 600k+ miles I ran it. Total trips behind the scale? Zero. A clean truck with a bad tire is more dangerous than a dirty one with good rubber. Current job pays to wash the truck but doesn't pay enough to inspire me to do a great job but I will happily rinse it down several times a week and get paid for doing so. I debated claiming three washes I didn't do then roll it up to the Beacon but that seems dishonest.

 

Don't see much rust on trucks as that they are almost all fiberglass these days.

 

Huh, never look at the axles? Or the frame? or the mudflap hangers? Or in the engine compartment?

But if the company doesn't pay for you to look at it, then why look at it?

I look at it this way, when I ran an medical office, I did not have to buy rubber gloves for the job, nor did I have to buy any medical supplies that was consumed by "work", it's part of the job. Do you think office workers buy toner for the fax machine at work? Inkjets for printers? Do you think McDonalds makes their employees bring chicken nuggets from home to feed the customers?

So keep dropping your hard earned money at the Truck Tub, while Knight shuts off the truck washes in the yards, drops wages, sells off all the trailers they can and does everything to save a nickle (including going longer than Cummins allows on PM services) I'm sure Kevin Knight himself will come down off the mountain and had you a gold star and a $50 savings bond.

If it was important to Knight, they can take some of their earnings and invest it back into the company. I mean they just posted a flat revenue, which means they didn't make MORE money than they did last year at this time, but they still made 12.7m in profit.
