No steering when your riding the rails , just enjoy the ride and watch your following distance if someone is in front of you.

On a wet day you can slide over 100 feet when only going 15 - 20 mph.....

 

Too much like a roller coaster for this fella.

im cancelling all trucking today. Bunch of ice with a dusting of snow frosting. Sposed to be 6-12” more tonite. Ain’t worth the ########. Different story if you are out n caught in it vs heading into it.

It has it’s moments lol. When approaching a switch at a siding, or a frog at a crossing, you always look at the switch points and make sure it’s aligned right. Or it could throw you onto a different track. The best Hirail truck we had was the twin screw Louisville with the crane on it, in a tight spot with a train looking you in the face, you could do 19 mph in reverse with the 8LL transmission.

Spotted this tractor in Mississippi just west of Waveland / Bay St. Louis area. It was a victim of Hurricane Katrina. Most would have junked it as the owner intended to do himself, but I had that gut feeling.....

Bought it, and fortunately had the crane that week so loading was easy lol. Hauled it straight to my tractor show before taking it home. Took some doing but I did get the engine freed up as well as the brakes.

While working in NY a CSX employee and I started talking tractors, and he was a hard core Allis Chalmers nut!! When I showed him pictures and told him the history, he made a offer I couldn’t refuse!!!

I never got to finish it, but he did. So it’s life was spared from going to China and now lives in NY.
