You usually see a Pete, KW, or Mack doing that kind of work

There's no correct answer. It's like the Ford vs. Chevy argument. They all can be the 'best' if they're spec'd correctly.
Some will argue to the death over a Pete, others a Western Star, still others a Mack. All of them are solid trucks. Even Freightliner can be a good setup, I see lots of them pulling dump trailers.
Now for ground clearance? I've yet to see a truck with as much ground clearance as a Western Star. Our mechanic loves ours. He's got a beer belly that rivals Santa Claus, and he can fit under them with no issue.Jrdude5 Thanks this. -
Mack CH model with 11R rubber and Mack rear ends.
My opinion -
Is it expensive to put a wet kit on a truck as well as hydraulics for that line of work.

To your original question, I was a dump owner operator for 6 years in chicago, I ran with a Mack CHN613 427 and had no problem pulling 73,000 on a 22 foot dump trailer. Up inclines or even backing up inclines that truck was a beast
