Thanks for the reply. Last week a rare bird caught my eye on other side of the interstate. It was a euro style late model cabover.. Probably an argosy i guess.. Pulling an all aluminum 53 step with tridem and the rear axle was lifted. It got me thinking of just how awesome a setup that must be. Light, super maneuverable, great visibility, modern by cabover standards and able to permit pretty high while still being low deck. Tall and heavy in a tight city has got to be some of the best money in flatbedding was what i figured.
Anyhow im not a mathlete and underatand bridge concept but cant calculate it by formula. And i got to wondering if theres any bridge benefit of splitting the tridem apart into a closed tandem and a spread with lifts in the front and back so it can be either. I figure that'd make a short pin length closed tandem that can twirl around easy at the peelot with the rear axle lifted.
Ive never done any osow work.
Ive seen these up around ohio but imagine theyre for permitting over in certain states or canuckia. How much can they scale?

I know you wondered where I was.
Well this was last Tuesday morning:
That's my great dane. Snowed another 4 inches after this pic. Ended up with like 14 to 15" and then it got all windy. Yeah. I barely left the house for a week.
Today, go to pick up already loaded trailer, strap it down and take it to jobsite. get there and not loaded. Ohhhhhhh it will take us like an hour? want me to wait. yeah yeah, you wait (fine, i'm sure they get billed for it). 4 hours later:
This is the other view of my unload spot.
yeah, that was an ugly back. had to do some landscaping readjustment. NMP.nikmirbre, whoopNride, booley and 4 others Thank this. -
she's got a real tough life as you can see. -
I can honestly say I've seen a spread axle config (just a 2 axle deal!) here in BC maybe three or four times in 15 years. I dont know the regs too well outside of my own thing, but I dont think they are even allowed here? Perhaps in the "eastern" provinces. I could be totally wrong (I live in a "lane bubble") but it's very uncommon at the least. I cant offer anything to your tandem + spread idea and bridge questions so I apologise! Theres quads and tandem tractors with a 3rd drop axle for the guys who run back and forth across the line, but it's pretty much either closed tandems or tridems (or trains, and excluding heavy duty stuff)
Different provinces have their own regs for allowances on axle groups and different spacing, but at least in BC, its 17k kg (37,400#) on a tandem and 24k kg (52,800#) on a tridem and go.
My Wilson step deck with the 61" spacing has a lift on the rear and it's awesome. My milk run is generally tandem weight up, and lumber "up to weight" back...with the rear axle down. It makes it a breeze getting in and out of some places, and being up half the time, I get good use out of the thing and save a few bucks.Last edited: Dec 3, 2019

Thought it was kind of a cool visual of my dirty rig at today’s shipper. Haven’t used it in a week. It’s the time of year when a clean exterior isn’t feasible in these parts since every yard is mud. If you look to the right there’s an abandoned suburban that the yard guys plowed snow around. Guess someone who wasn’t supposed to be there got stuck during the storm some days ago, and hasn’t been back.Attached Files:
