Absolutely change or repair filter housing.. Dirt is like sand paper to a engine . A friend got his Cummins rebuilt and they cracked the housing and he didn’t notice it . After 18 months the engine was toast from sucking dirt into it the liner were polished smooth.

Cap the inlet and outlet and use compressed/shop air to pressurize CAC (don't go over 40 psi) then spray outside with soapy water and look for leaks.
