Do you chock wheels and release the parking brake to check slack adjusters?

    For the front you can lock the brakes and check them.

    The back of the truck has Maxi spring brakes, those are the brakes that you have to chock the wheels and release the brakes to check them.

    They make those little rubber rings that you can put on. Seems safer than getting under a vehicle without brakes set

    Bring a chalk marker with you. The schoolhouse kind.

    And a small ruler.

    Chock your vehicle. take brakes off. Make sure it aint trying to get out of chocks (Plural...) mark the stroke rods.

    Get back in and set parking brakes. Those marks you made should now be within what? 2 inches of your starting point?

    With automatic slack adjusters today and the end of the adjusting of manual brakes with a wrench decades ago I don;t worry about if this brake or that brake is out of adjustment. That fact will become self evident soon enough and be taken care of then.

    If the slack adjusters are working properly, yes.

    Also you can put transmission in gear if you don't have a wheel chock or block or curb or stone.

    Appreciate the info. I've heard do it for front and back but the consensus is just chock and release brake for the rear. I wanted to make sure for my pretrip test.

    at 3:51 he states wheels chocked and brakes released for front

    3:36 he says the same

    I just want to be sure because I read examiners failing people for calling a gauge an indicator.
