Benefits of being permitted, sometimes you get to go where no other truck is allowed to go.

we can only hope, that those 4 wheelers learnt not to tailgate, and to pass quickly
i too am a firm believer that if you're gonna screw up, screw up big, so it makes the yelling, screaming, worth the effort on your bosses part.

Its not a truck route because they never upgraded the road and lost their highway designation. Its now a residential boulevard.
Theres a reason they route oversized around Milwaukee.

Not debating that, but I've been routed on dirt roads that school busses aren't even allowed on to get through an area before. Just making a statement, never been that way before, so cant say whether they would or wouldn't send you that way.

Just because it's not a state route doesn't mean you can't get a permit to run it.

You are correct that a state permit will not put you on that road. But a City of Milwaukee permit sure will.

My company runs plenty of OS/OW stuff in SE WI every day and uses tons of local streets that aren't state numbered roads. Perfectly legal if you fill out the right paperwork and pay the fees.

My favorite OD experience was taking a JD combine to...somewhere.... Ag exempt in Illinois but 'the company got me a permit, anyway. After trying to follow the darn thing through Chicago suburbs, I gave up and sought the quickest route back to 80.

Wouldn't you know, some local gendarm thought he'd stop me and 'splain to me why I was gon' get a ticket.... Finally got it through his head what "ag exempt" means and he tries to insist I have to follow him to a state scale house because "your tandems 'look' to be slightly overloaded". No sir! Ya see, I'm also armed with a CAT scale ticket from only a couple hours ago proving my legal weight.
Left without a leg to stand on, he admonishes yours truly to get back on the freeway in an expeditious manner "without knocking anything over"....

350 miles to go from IN to WI without leaving Cook County I'm sure.
