If you are at the parts country just open up the box and shine a light in. You will see the center is open all the way through, it's hollow. On a baffled road legal muffler the ends have steel baffles. Looks like a cheese grater.

Thanks for the reply spyder. Looking at Donaldson's catalog so far, that's what I was coming up with. It's half the price of the 463 on Ryderfleetproducts. Claims lower backpressure than the 463 in most applications, although the opposite in other. 463 is listed as offroad, 465 listed as "best value, most popular". The only concern I have is the 465 isn't listed at all on the higher hp applications where the 463 is.

I got that. I'm not looking for that one though. I'm looking for the "quiet" straight thru one. I've been researching and that one might actually not be a Donaldson? Or it may be the 465. I'm going to keep digging.

Going through Donaldson's catalog literature it appears if you really want minimal back pressure at high volume (high HP) you gotta go with that 463...

That must be a rebadged Donaldson as well. They list mufflers with the same designation. The flow numbers aren't great.

My conclusion here I think is the 463 flows 3200 CFM at 3 in hg. According to Donaldson if I'm understanding the high hp motors stock require 2800-3200 CFM at peak hp and max backpressure you should have is 3 in hg. The 463 is the highest flowing muffler they have, and it's just enough.
This seems to be the master thread on the subject: high flow mufflers -
I wanted to let you know the Walker 22920 is a straight flow muffler. When I ordered the Donaldson, my part dealer didn't stock it, but this muffler cross referenced. I think it was $78 after tax. It has a nice bark right outside my driver window.
bbechtel16 Thanks this.
