Cannonball Run record broken 27hrs 25 mins NY to CA

I know they had a gyroscopically stable roof mounted binoculars that someone watched at all time. Literally took shifts being lookout!

 

I am not surprised. Evolving hunting lawmen to achieve a record trying to be where they aint. Ive always enjoyed these runs.

IF I wanted to try for it my vehicle of choice will have to be a large Bugatti unlimited. One was run near 300 sustained on a special german track recently. They say the downforce was about 4 tons sitting on that vehicle from above while areodynamics and brake venting etc maintained a 4 ton hold to the vehicle to the pavement to prevent it from going airborne.

And use the Bugatti to try for 24 hours coast to coast. But all of this is something of a fantasy because with me physically at high top end anything above 130+ its really hard on the mind and body to not screw it up. Its a younger man's game. That and a ocean of fuel tanks.

Ive already had my fair share of getting a 18 wheeler from here to there in those speeds. Does not deliver the load any earlier to be honest or make any more money each week in them days.

 

I find that hard to believe. I dont know of a road u can get up to those speeds for any length of time.

IF you were say Milesburg hill westbound on 80 at the bottom by the truckstop there in the valley off the next ridge to the east, you had to slow to 121 so the truck does not run off the highway in that last curve before the 10 mile pull. Halfway up you are still doing 80 and pulling power at 1600 off 2150. you make a shift down at 7 miles and cover the top at about 55 and redline. Wait 4 miles on the gentle slope westbound then shift up and back to 115. There is a drop a few miles after where momentum kicks you beyond for the next ridge.

Dispose of PA in 3 hours on 80. The problem is the Lawman in those days, slowed for 4 specific milemarkers.

I tell stories like this from time to time. I don't believe in pushing a big rig in those speeds anymore, there is no point. However there are possibilities for 24 hour service between say LA to NJ in closed loop highway systems where 130 mph tractor trailers boom straight through coast to coast speeding freight fast. No cars nothing else. Maybe have induction in the pavement to feed electric motors and heat it for winter etc.

Charge 10.00 a mile making sure someone's hot china product gets to Jersey next day service from LA.

Germany has a Autobahn thats unlimited in sections still. You tube videos of it show very high dollar cars minimum of 150 usually 220 over all out in these sections.

Why don't we? Well at one time long ago Montana did not have a speed limit anywhere. Nothing in the law except one thing. If you were deemed too fast its 5.00 so you kept a stack of 5.00 bills in the pax seat ready to go handout to the Montana Lawman for his trouble and take off. Open that rig wide. She'll get there.

If I wanted to pick a spot in the USA for truely fast driving unlimited, it will be about a 20 mile stretch of interstate about the Truth and Consequences AZ. It's nice straight with a small climb over a roll in the land about 3 miles this way and 2 the other. Up and over wide open.

I don't see a problem for cars capable of doing so reaching 200+ in that distance for a short time. It will only take about oh... 8 minutes or so to run out the 20 mile stretch.

The run was legitimate, and they only broke the record by a couple hours. Either way, this was well a planned and supported run. I was reading that they only spent 23 minutes total on fueling, which meant they would have had to preplanned fuel stops with volunteers waiting with prefilled racing quick dump funnel fuel cans.
