I don’t think it’s a matter of it can’t be done, but honestly it’s not very realistic. Fishing maybe, but there are so many variables out of your control in this industry. If you’re taking 13+ hours off, you’re losing money or your company isn’t running you hard enough. I run hard to try to use up my 11 hours of drive time in 12 including my break and pre/post trip, take my 10 off, and be ready to go as soon as it’s over. That 10 hours off is used to eat, shower, exercise, relax, and sleep. It IS possible to use that time for other activities, but I can count on one hand the number of times this year I’ve stopped at a place where fishing would even be an option, licensing issues aside. I don’t frequent truck stops other than to fuel and shower. It wastes too much time getting in and out of them for the way I like to run. True IF you route plan AND your company doesn’t penalize you for going out of your way to destination, it MAY be possible IF they allow truck parking, but not likely that all of these will fall into place as a new company driver. I could see it potentially being more probable for an owner op who has more freedom of routing and timeline. Power to you if you can pull it off, but don’t go into this expecting to be able to on a regular basis. Good luck!
