benefits of buying diesel at truck stop

    I've noticed that the price of diesel at the chain truck stops is often significantly higher than non truck stop gas stations that sell diesel, but there's always a line of trucks filling up at the truck stop.
    What does the truck stop offer in value added that attracts truckers to buy their higher priced fuel?

    Fill both them tanks. Fast. 335 gallons in about roughly 14 minutes or less with highspeed duals pump.

    If I tried to buy 335 gallons in my regular filling spot its going to take about a hour and 40 minutes to pump it more or less.

    Half the thoughts you expressed are very good, but in trucking? Toss em. Fuel equals money to make. And in winter it equals life if something happens far from any place. Fuel is vital. To have it is good. But we go through oh I don't know 1000 gallons a week sometimes in our Team truck. Thats just one of us. I think there are about 4 million trucks. All of them will need hundreds of gallons.

    Price, brand, this that and other fluff does not even enter our mind. There is fuel at the truckstop get it and let's go! Too much time lost there already.

    Trucking companies USUALLY buy fuel a year in advance at a certain price betting that the prices will not fall below that retail. Its a whole another level of business that we simple minded drivahs don't worry about.

    Subway, diarrhea inducing food, and overpriced crap made in China, BUT, fresh diesel. And rewards points to redeem for said overpriced crap made in China and or diarrhea inducing food

    I dont care for the truck stops very much, they are generally a ripoff. I prefer a good ol usually unmanned cardlock, filthy showers and all. Get in get out unscathed (as long as you bring a towel and flip flops)

    Most of the chain truckstops have price discount agreements with credit card companies. The price on the sign is not the price paid.
    Also most chain truckstops have a points card for the driver pumping the fuel.

    Most independent fuel stops don't offer both discounts.
    The idea for chain truckstops is to get the company drivers that don't have required fuel stops, to stop and buy the higher priced fuel and earn the points.

    In many states there is a difference in the fuel tax for diesel depending on the size of the vehicle, which affects the price.
    The Arizona tax on gasoline (motor vehicle fuel) is 18¢ per gallon. Use fuel (diesel) is taxed at two rates in Arizona.
    • If the use fuel is used in the propulsion of a use class motor vehicle on a highway in this state, the tax rate is 26¢ for each gallon.
    • If the use fuel is used in the propulsion of a light class motor vehicle (such as a pickup truck) or an exempt vehicle (certain school buses, government and non-profit vehicles, on a highway in this state, the use fuel is taxed at the same rate per gallon as the motor vehicle fuel tax (18¢ per gallon).

    Nothing. They know you aren’t getting 75’ of truck into just anywhere to buy a couple hundred gallons of fuel, so it’s perfectly okay to sell fuel at 75 cents a gallon higher than every place selling it within 50 miles. :rolleyes:

    I try to avoid large national truck stops. Like mentioned fuel is over priced and the waiting in line to fuel is ridiculous.

    When you pay for your fuel that 25 cents per gallon adds up. Company drivers don't care how much fuel costs.

    We go to Pilot/Flying J because my company gets a discount on their bill.

    I haven't fueled at a big the big truck stops in years. They are usually overpriced and crowded. There are decent truck stop that are fairly priced but don't have the amenities that drivers like i.e restaurants. The one that come to mind is speedway and QT. These truck stops don't have showers but their diesel prices are usually about .30 cents of per gallon. They all also have high speed diesel pumps. Most of the trucks you see at the chain truck stops are driving by company drivers while the ones fueling at the mom and pops are owner Operators. The one thing that the chain truck stops have are really clean showers.

    and unfortunately- You have to Suffer the consequences for aforementioned Problems in doing so (Long Lines,Idiots everywhere,No parking,Overpriced store items and a Dennys)

    Your company wreaks the benefits with fuel discounts that are NOT passed on to your paycheck....

    May not bother you- But it Bother me
