Exactly right. You can not pass judgement on the woman with the only evidence being a 5 second video clip.

Guess he didn't have the "horsepower" to win that tug of war!

Sorry but to me, that is abuse. My mom has owned horses since she was a teenager and she would NEVER hook any animal to the back of a motorized vehicle. Its just not something you do. I'm not a huge horse person but I've ridden a bit here and there. I know enough to say that was a very dumb move on the owner's part.

I don't think anyone is saying it was a smart move. The question is does dumb equal criminal abuse?

There's the answer. Circles. We had a mare that would not load once. Tried circles, 3 man load and finally tied it through the trailer and to a pu. Then put pressure/pull on the horse just enough to get resistance. Guess what she tired and we move ahead a foot. Repeat process. Did she abuse the horse, perhaps. Is she dumb and a poor horseman yes.

I'd say it warrants some repercussions. You've got a 300+ hp dualie that weighs 8,000 lbs trying to pull a 1,200-1,500 lb horse. All the horse needs to do is catch a hoof on a root or in a pothole and its got a broken leg (and subsequently) and bullet.

It was a stupid and dangerous thing to do.

That would be for me to answer.

On the horse farm when I find one that is anchored to the earth and lays its ears back showing teeth at me, I just wait a little while. Towards lunch we custom build a very special oat based mash in a cooking barrel at the barn. A big fat scoop of that oh so tasty belly filling comfort food and all the steam and walk out to anchor horse.

Sniff. Ears come up takes a bite of my shoulder. Sniffs some more. I back off. C'mon tsktsktsktsk you know you want this.
A step, neck comes out reaching for a bite, I get him a little nibble. He shakes with joy on one bite. Eyes the pile eyes me. I back off another step

He takes a step. Another bite.

I shake and spin and take off.

Clop clop clop clop clop clop chasing me trying to eat the pile before I do.

I might spill alot of it but when he SMELLS that BIG HUGE BARREL of it approaching the barn, he kicks it to top gear and applies the gallop. Gone.

    Problem solved.

I see this tow as all out abuse. Nothing less. Anyone so stupid to abuse that horse should not be permitted to have any at all. In fact I see it as attempted murder. There are certain bones in each of the legs, if broken when trying to resist that tow would have resulted in him being put down by a vet.

I disagree. Watching the video I think she is moving at a show enough speed that if the horse lost its footing and fell for any reason she could stop before any damage occurred. Maybe not entirely risk free, but definately low risk.

Refusing to load would get the horse a bullet from me, some people would call that abuse too.
