Because, in my case, they provide the trailer, all the loads because we only haul direct, and pay me weekly so I don’t have to chase my money. Even if I had to buy my own trailer there is value in the other two things I’ve mentioned.

I believe leasing O/O s was part of deregulation in 1979. The definition of Employee has been an ongoing debate. Stay tuned.

My grandpa had to lease to a petroleum company long before deregulation because he couldn’t haul gas and diesel with his authority. He had a service station back home that he would haul for that was owned by a friend of his and I believe the company he would lease to was from Mitchell SD.

That was probably a Trip lease deal. He wasn’t tied to only the Petroleum Co. The standard Lease agreements of today, along with New entry changes were all part of Deregulation. Basically the two major changes.

No need to get too excited yet. The law is being challenged in court. It might take a long time before anything definitive happens.
In the meantime what I see happening is some of the shadier outfits that haul out of the ports and rail yards are keeping a low profile.
Some of them were also into L/P and if you've seen the equipment and the drivers involved in that ;particular scam you'll understand what I'm talking about.

We are eventually just going to have to roll troops into California and get it back under US rule. We have got to get them back in line

Not only that..a neighbor has his own rights, and a pretty good gig. But..he is married to his gig. Can't take time off because #1,getting someone dependable, #2,afraid if who he gets to help may undercut his rates and move in on his freight. I am a leased on owner op, truck only, no forced loads, take off whenever i feel the urge. Each to their own. I may go to California someday. To visit. Sleep in a tent on the sidewalk. With friends i haven't met yet. Jk.

Your missing the point. Yes we share the profits but when the gross profit is around $6/mi and I get to keep $3.50 with out having to bust my ### dealing with brokers, or having to pay through the nose for insurance it ok for me. Do I follow guide lines? Sure but then again we ALL do.

I actually get 87% with my own trailer. Yes they do take a percentage of the revenue but I am using their authority, they are finding the loads, they handle the collection, they calculate my ifta, they provide my permits. So are they entitled to some money? Sure it's a business and we are partners.
