Just a bizar question, see I like to ask lots of questions why I like this forumn but I don’t have health insurance but being at LS they have CPP contractor protection for like 32 weekly. When does this not cover me? Say I am home working on truck and hurt myself or say I’m doing something like odd jobs for someone like cutting grass and get injured would I be able to use this there as well? Anyone been hurt and how did it play out? I’m looking for someone who likes cats, lol!

workman's comp, is for work. nothing else.

you need private insurance for any thing else. shop around. if you belong to the OOIDA, they have an insurance dept. but also try the other companies, like State Farm, etc, for health insurances...

If your annual income is below $50,000, you may qualify for Medicaid in your state to cover your general health issues off the job. Worker's Comp is only for work related injuries.

Single no defendants, may qualify for a subsidy through healthcare.gov.Open Enrollment is now, expires soon in December. If your income is too low, around $20 k, I believe, you’re not eligible, automatically kicks you to Medicaid. I doubt you’ll be that lucky. $2.00 Office visits and $1.00 prescriptions. My daughter was on it for the last 2 yrs in college. Working part time $17 k yr. after we lost our coverage. It actually worked out real good. Now She’s making the big bucks, paying the big payroll taxes.

When you are home, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN.

Ive gotten hurt bad one day off my milk truck on the job. The hospital patched me pronto and billed the State and Company Workmans Comp and write off the rest. In a couple of months I picked up a small check which generally covers the time period of lost income being hurt.

In the rest of my time out there, when I got hurt I had my own insurance and dealt with the hospital direct. I don't take it to WC. We don't have time for that. And whatever losses are absorbed by existing savings. When I lost a hip last year the bill for that replacement for everything came to a cool 61000 dollars give or take 10. Thats what my insurance paid. Not the billed rate at 110,000 dollars total.

The problems begin when one goes to get medical help and then gets buried in a few layers of medical billing. For example Medicine. 1000 dollars pay me please. Supplies 2000 dollars. Room and board another 2000 dollars a night for private. Outside physical therapy 5000 a month in billing., outside aides 20 dollars a hour. three items of medical furnature, another 1000 dollars. Doctor who did sawing. 4000. The second doc who knocked me out and put me on life support. Thats another 2500. Time on life support another 3000. Scans upwards of 16000 dollars. Per hour.

Nickel and dime you to death by thousands at a time in billing that arrives at your home in the mail for months.

Medical debt itself is unregulated. If the hospital chooses to they can get a judgement, then rent a truck and have a sheriff show up and empty the contents of your home to satisfy that debt along with seizing the boat and second truck etc.

I think Congress did recently a little bit of work to try and slow that down a little bit But they are not as focused as they used to be in years past anymore.

Don't get hurt if you can. Too much trouble.
