Liners shimmed 30 thou over spec???????
That's ####ed. You're asking for a cracked head and blown gasket with that setup.
Cracked head (intake) but 2 different stories from 2 different mechanics !

Oh? So THAT's the problem? The mechanic told me that he's done hundreds of heads that way and that if you don't shim the liners over spec, that they sink in the block.

Liner protrusion should be set somewhere in the ballpark of around 3 to 5 thou (depending on the engine). 30+ thou is way too high.

Basically the Mechanics saying, he cut the counter bores and shimmed 2 liners, to bring the heights up to spec. Normal stuff. Sounds like a decent Truck, if they’ll stand behind the warranty and make it right. You’re going to lose any money spent at another Mechanic. As far as the other small things go, that’s what you can expect when buying a Truck unseen. You bought it anyways already, after seeing it. The high oil pressure is not right. I wonder if a blown compressor head gasket could also be causing that. You’ll need to get to the bottom of it. At this point, the best you can hope for is their cooperation. I’d be slow to make any accusations, since you really don’t know the problem yet.Its probably cheaper at this point to work with the original Mechanic and Seller. Burning that bridge, even if you win in the end will cost you a lot more. Give them the benefit of a doubt. It’s easy to guess at the problem, whatever it is, it can be fixed.

Truck was sold as is no warranty.
Warranty would only apply to work performed but he can’t take the truck back -
@TTNJ, thanks for reading my post. I bought the truck sight unseen but paid for a diesel repair shop for a pre-purchase inspection. At no time did they say to me that they would only do a visual inspection and in fact, I told them to bill my card as much as needed to do a thorough inspection and have those calls recorded. AFTER the coolant issue, they tell me that they just did a visual inspection. The seller hinted a taking it back but I haven't heard back from him.
The video link has a second installment and he ended up changing the head gasket. -
That is how I understood the post.
Have a good day.
