Long story short
Last week I return to work at 700 as agreed to. I have a live load for 0800. So I find me an empty trailer but am stuck behind another driver getting his trailer due to Schneiders Dallas terminal being so over crowded. Once he finally moves out the way it is a line at the gate to exit. All in all I don't get to the location in wilmer tx until 8:16.
I am held at the shipper until 3:30 pm and they still haven't finish loading. By this point I ask my company if I can just drop the trailer and come bacc in the morning since the load was delivering to Topeka Kansas but had a 3 day window. Instead they just take the whole load from me after I'm the one that waited there all day. To make it worse they saying I can't get detention since I got there 16 minutes late
How would you handle no detention pay for something out of your control

1) they did not like you to be griping about the waiting times
2) they had someone else fresh with hours to run, that could handle it.
3) they went on an "assumption" that load may take longer, OR someone from your company called, and was told the trailer will still not be ready at the new time.
as far as detention time, what does it say in your handbook?
"some companies", you "GIVE" them 1 to 2 hours, BEFORE detention starts paying
some companies are hard core on lateness, no matter the reason, and deny the extra pay due to that.
do your time there, then move onto another company?BigDog Trucker Thanks this. -
Hate to be blunt...
You turned the key 1 hour before your pickup time when you didn't have a trailer.
You didn't allow enough time to actually get on the road and be on time for pickup and missed the appointment.
Had you been on time, you would very likely gotten paid for sitting all day.JonJon78, BigDog Trucker, Just passing by and 5 others Thank this. -
It's not about me allowing time to do anything. The planners put the loads on you automatically regardless if you have an empty trailer or notmagoo68 and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -

What did dispatch say when you called them from the OC, to let them know that you were delayed in leaving the yard?
-
Otherwise you could have started earlier, you simply chose not to. -
So everyone's answer seems to be spend your time unpaid waiting in line even earlier....I go back to get an hourly job my man lol.
