IMPORTANT - PLEASE HELP - A few quick questions guys...

This driver knows where I am at anywhere. They MIGHT NOT know the exact town they pulled over to sleep in until they asked around to be sure which town for logging purposes.

We used no gadgets in our time. The most we did was a road motor carrier's atlas and a legal pad with pencil.

We don't care what Mr Fixit has as long he fixes it. Sometimes I fix it myself. Not necessarily bonded, insured, guaranteed or warranted. But it's fixed enough to get moving.

 

Was typing a smart ### comment and then realized what you are asking. Yes, lots of people live in the past and don't know how how to use Google maps on their phone. I can totally see how they can't explain where they are located when calling for a service

 

Even without google maps or gps I know where I am at by the mile markers or exit number.

 

It happens daily. When I had my tow trucks maybe 1 in 10 could give me precise directions such as I-84 mile post 26 west bound. Most could at least tell me what state and highway they were on, but maybe 3 out of 10 had absolutely no idea where they were!

Car drivers are just as bad, and with gps today it has become an even larger problem. So much so in fact that there is a digital dispatch app for towing companies that they can text to a customer and the customer then opens it on the phone and it uses their location info from the phone to generate a location for the tow truck driver to respond

 

I've had several of my adult children call in for a breakdown and have no clue or were 100+ miles off. Mind you these are also the ones that don't know what the right side of the truck looks like past the fuel tank.

 

Reason while mile markers exist. And always have a GPS that shows you longitude and latitude in case of emergency’s.

I can share my location with other iPhone users, and I look at exits one I passed and one coming up on my gps.

 

Longitude and Latitude is beyond like 99.9% of society.

We played with Rand GPS in the late 1998 time period and it worked well. Provided the physical address to take the truck is fact. Today we can use google earth to verify that yes there is a dock back there...

One of the best lessons I taught my parents was about mile markers, the green and white numbers on the side of the highway. One of them had a acute MI that was pretty much going to kill him then and there, but she saw that she was a at a particular mile marker and told the ambulance company which one. And they were able to save him with a quad bypass that I believe is holding up pretty well decades later even though the rest of him is being lost by degrees to a mind erasing sickness that will kill him eventually at some point.

 

sure they have a devise that can tell them where they are, but have no idea how they got there.

have asked GPS drivers what road they came in on ,or what exit they used and the answer is usually, "I don't know ,just followed my GPS".
