Yep, had many ppl tell me, those guys are making $50/week flat rate, and they have to live off the Flying J points. Trucking in BC is pretty much gonna be over and done with, once the new ICBC insurance rates hit; imho.

I'm currently driving a 2016 Volvo VNL 670 and wouldn't ever choose to drive one by choice (it's an O/O truck on my company's fleet). I got into it with 700k kms on the clock and it was already rattling and squeaking up under the dash.
I won't bash it (yet) since it's running well mechanically (only issue I had was a blown coolant line off the DPF, plastic proprietary junk) and has got me where I've needed to go, but I would highly advise against any independent person buying one.
The engine bay is designed to artificially increase labour costs (in order to do anything serious, you'll need to take off the big plastic aero cover over the wheel) and everything is either made of plastic or looks very, very cheaply made and is either tucked up under or behind something else.
A Volvo as a company truck? I wouldn't settle for anything less than a VNL 860 fully loaded. If I'm going to be driving an RV for a truck, I want it to be posh.BigHossVolvo Thanks this. -

You would've liked my last ride. 2007 880, big black, chrome all over it, with extra lights in the right places. 700 hp, 2250 torque, 3.21 ratio. A freight train with any load weight up the grades of BC, and a gazelle on the flat.

Stupid quote thing made two posts of of it.

Volvo does not give to ####s about small companies or the one truck O/O. Everything is proprietary, everything is pay upfront and beg for warranty after, everything MUST be done thru a dealer. It’s beyond insane, and I’ve told them as such. When you can get warranty on KW/Freightliner/Western Star at TA/Petro, Approved Warranty Independent Shops, Cummins, Detroit, Eaton in addition to the Dealers without an issue; the choice is clear.
The ride is nice, the turning is tight, the Ishift rocks and the power/milage is good (if you baby it), but the #### things just fall apart.magoo68 Thanks this. -
it broke down half as much as any truck i had in 12yrs (various macks, freightliners)
but when it broke down, it took 2x as long cuz no one could fix it.
overheathing in cali....5 days in fontana (volvo dealer) then day later cuz they couldnt figure it out, dispatch said just go
broked down again in sacramento...5 days there CLOSED FOR WEEKENDS lol.....another volvo dealer
was fan hub lol
got engine shutdown in northern mt....no scanner at billy bobs shop...so he pulled sensors until code went away...was oil pressure sensor
in winter, passenger window wiring would freeze up/short out....window would just go down on its own, lolBigHossVolvo Thanks this. -
Im pulling a dry bulk tanker regional, if I go like hell for 70+ hrs I might bring home $950 a week. Some companys pay better than others, my limited long haul experience mostly flatbed with some van work paid about the same but I was away from home alot and I was at the mercy of dispatchers and shippers so not as many working hours were required. My best paying job was regional flatbed averaged $1000 a week and some weeks I got &1250.
But I worked hard and had no life. -
If you could get a $1500 paycheck every week and divide it by 70 hour work week you get $21 per hour.
Sell your soul and spend most of your life in a truck away from home?
Not likely to make $1500 every week.
Work 5 to 10 years..save all your money..and get out...TheStopSignGuy, Garththomas and BigHossVolvo Thank this.
