Assuming the road has mile markers.
For example I breakdown on M60 (MI). Did I just pass Menden, or was it Parkville? Interstates are easy.
    Other roads not as much.

That said, in this day and age of smart phones, assuming coverage, getting a location should be simply opening the map app.

The worst I have seen was a dispatcher call with a truck out of fuel. He gave exact mm so no big deal. I sent a hand out with diesel, but he wasn't there. an hour or so later another call with when are you going to take diesel, and I explained the truck did not know where it was, but they insisted, so I went myself and drove another 15 miles, no truck anywhere. So I call them and tell them there driver is lost. They call back in a few minutes and also have the driver on the phone and he claims he can see the mm sign from his booth in the restaurant, so since there is no business of any kind within miles of where he claims to be, I ask which place he is at. I then told them they should probably call somebody in Az, instead of NM, as my service call would be pretty expensive. The dispatcher told me that sort of explained why he was out of fuel. lol
You would be surprised how many did not realize they were in NM, or ask how many more states they had to go through before they got to Cali. lol

Yeah those old farts like me who still use ancient paper things call maps are missing out on following an electronic device with a voice telling me to drive onto bridges that are made for horse traffic or getting onto a restrictive one way street going the wrong way or ending up in a pond.

I drove a light-duty rollback wrecker for a couple months.

Get to where dispatch sent me. No car.

Dispatch gives me customer phone number.

    "Hello?"

"Hi, tow truck guy here. Where are you?"

    "Colonie".

    "WHERE in Colonie?"

    "The mall".

    "WHICH mall?"

    "Huh?"

    "Colonie Center or Adirondack?"

"No, I'm at Crossgates". (Crossgates is in Guilderland, (NOT Colonie)

"Okay, are you at the east end or west end of the mall?"

    Huh?

    "What store are you facing?"

    "I'm not....I'm facing the road."

(Sigh)"If you TURN AROUND AND FACE THE MALL, what store do you see?"

"Uhhhhhhh......(sound of person turning). Best Buy."

"Ok. Be there in fifteen minutes".

"Thanks. Oh, it's a silver Volvo wagon".

    "Of COURSE it is...."

This happened more times than would've thought possible. So I quit.

On the opposite side of the spectrum.... I've told breakdown EXACTLY where I'm at: city, state, highway, mile marker, even the color and genders of the cows looking at me and they still had questions on where I was. Even after sending screenshots of Google maps (zoomed out and in) they had no dang clue.

I thought you own 300 trucks and manage things. Are you saying you are still driving a truck and delivering things?

    lol. Take it easy...
A guy who started with me as a company driver, something like 18 years ago, managed to build his fleet up to 40 - 50 trucks now. He was still going for pick ups and local deliveries not too long ago...
Still, I'd imagine that with 300 trucks, I'd be on the yacht that's on my avatar, making calls only....

Nah, I think this guy is fake. Someone even posted here that he knows him personally and that Ridgeline is an o/o for Landstar.

    What Homeskillet said.
    In spades.
That is what I have put up with since 1983!!
Pocono Mountains is a destination 90 miles from both
New York City and Philadelphia. Aren't we lucky?
They are "on vacation," and oblivious to any marker, sign, or direction. "Were you Eastbound or Westbound?" Huh?
I have had the urge after 20 questions, and no intelligent reply
To just tell them "I'm on the way," and go back to sleep.
Some truly seem to deserve to be broke down and lost.

I used to use an app qWhereAmI that displayed lat., long., and closest municipality (among other things). Was extremely useful because a lot of my trips were in more remote areas and the closest municipality for log reasons (no ELD) wasn't always obvious.
