Ended up using all my rubber mats on top of the coils to prevent the straps from dropping down through into the racks. I do think mats under the racks is a good idea though.

Slightly rushed after taking my time with all the chains. Not my best tent tarp. Lol

I was always told it was good practice to pad between x-chains. Chains can definitely touch otherwise how could one do a horeshoe chain, a chain or hog tie. No edge protection for this load as it wouldve been akward making that work imo. Perhaps if these were aluminum I wouldve had no choice but to figure it out.

this menagerie of stuff. It's mostly the things to drill piers with. I had to back like 3/4 of a mile up a winding mountain road cuz there was no place to turn around to get in. (they blocked the road at both ends). Good thing there's no backing in flatbed

Followed by this collection of stuff for concrete forms. AFter i got it all strapped down adn took this picture, guy comes out and says "oh we need to add this bunk of 16' long 2x4's". I ask you, do you see any room to put a 16' long bunk of 2x4's????? We had to take like half the trailer apart. AFTER IT WAS ALREADY STRAPPED DOWN. arrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhh. Trucking is the best. Even the warehouse guy was not pleased.

Then today some more steel down in the hole. Instead of backing out (above) we now disconnect down there, the forkie picks up the trailer and turns it around and then i hook back up and mostly almost drive out.

Look how tall this was. It was ridiculous. not a odd view of the truck, it really was that tall. I did another load later out there, but forgot to take a picture. looked pretty much like that, but not so tall.

No offense but that bottom load of beams is just waiting to kill you in a sudden stop situation.
2 chains and 3 straps over the top ain't nearly enough on that many tiers.
Every tier should be tied down separately with at least 2.
3 or 4 on the 3rd. Prolly wrapped since it's varying size pieces.
And 5 on top with chains tight to the front edge of the flange sticking up.
I don't mean to be a dick but spending an extra 10 minutes securing might save your life one day.

I don’t envy @LoneCowboy one bit. Most of the loads he shows would be taken off my trailer. Better him than me.

I definitely would of thrown more at that load myself and still been nervous.

I hauled structural just like that for over 30 yrs. The bottom tiers are held in place by the weight of each tier on top of them. Those tiers seem pretty even with dunnage hitting every piece. Occasionally if I saw something loose in a tier I might feed a tiedown through. I probably would have more than 5 tiedowns (maybe 6 or 7) The one thing I don't like is how much of that column on top is hanging over that rear block...I might have shifted it forward or put an extra block up there. I hate it when dunnage breaks...
I'm pretty sure @LoneCowboy knows what he's doing, we've seen quite an assortment of what he has to deal with on a daily basis and just as @Tug Toy said, "better him than me"

what @booley said. The dunnage is touching the lower layers. They actually did a pretty good job on these couple loads and everything is touching, including dunnage even being built up to make it even and touch. so everything is pushing DOWN onto the final layer of dunnage on top of the trailer.

I don't get any options with these big columns. They come in from out of state, the guys take their chains/straps off and drop them. (and put the chains in the trailer BTW. no i understand this not at all). And then I have to pull it straight out of the hole and secure it again to go the final 16 miles onto a secured area. (why they just don't leave their chains/straps on the load and then we take them off and put them back on the trailer.) Anyway, i can't move anything. It's do the best you can with what you got. BTW 40 feet long, 38,000lbs. 2 3/8th chains, 3 5400WLL straps, I"m fine on both length and weight. TBF though if i was going 500 miles i'd probably throw one or two more. But it is legal and it is secure.

38000lbs, 16 miles...you're good to go...I hate loads like that, it takes more time to secure them than to haul them...

You prolly figured if that other driver couldn't break that stick coming from out of state then you certainly weren't gonna do it in 16 miles;)
