I've never had anyone complain about my calling and asking if early delivery is okay. Sometimes, if your load was originally scheduled earlier and somehow delayed, OR if there was cancellation of another load of the same product that should have arrived earlier, OR if the site is just under-scheduled for the day, they might say yes.
Even Wal-Mart DC's will sometimes say yes, though very rarely. I've been allowed in for penalty-free early delivery at Wal-Mart twice in the three years I was a company driver, once in Maine, the other time in Southern CA.
EDIT: If you DO get the go-ahead for early delivery for a strict site, you better let your dispatch team know so they don't panic when your arrival call hits their computers.

Contract freight is just that...a contract.
The contract stipulates that the carrier will deliver goods according to the schedules of the customer.
Anything outside of that is considered a failure to meet the requirements of that contract.
Warehouse managers, guards, shipping / receiving personnel DO NOT have the authority to alter that appointment. They may be waiting on the product, have nothing to do, etc. All that doesn'tt matter.
When the white collars reconcile and check, they see that the carrier did not meet the obligation of contract.
That will jeopardize future contracts, lessen the rate if they renew, and customer will seek another carrier that can actually tell time. -

If I can make a delivery early, I call the receiver. If they can accept the load early, I call my dispatcher and let them know about the new delivery time. If the account is a picky account, they verify that the new time is acceptable, and let me know if the new delivery time is a good one.
It's not that complicated.interpreter, spyder7723, Winnyf1 and 1 other person Thank this. -

Target will let you drop early, but’s it’s still a service failure.

I wouldn't chance calling it in and getting it verified just to be granted a service failure. Maybe don't take the load that has a delivery date 4 days out when you can deliver in 2?
