So, you "earned" a free shower on your boss's dime, and you're too dam cheap to leave at least $2 behind for the person that cleans up YOUR mess when you leave? You're right, at 2 showers an hour, that person would pick up an extra $4, which means they'd be pushing $11 or so an hour.
Cheap ########. What goes around, comes around.

If the shower is cleaned good and the towel actually smells clean I will usually leave whatever change I have in my pocket... May be a buck or less... Maybe as much as $5.
If the porter goes out of thier way to be nice and asks me to let them know if the shower doesnt meet my standards of cleanliness, I will leave a few dollars of paper money... But I can only think of 3 or 4 times this has happened.InTooDeep, Ridlingdj, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this. -
When I use the shower, I flush the toilet and pile the used towels on the bench so the porter doesn't have to bend over so far.
The porter accepted the job, and knew what they were getting into.
It seems EVERYBODY expects a tip these days, and IMO there's no reason for it.
I spend my money how I please. Doesn't make me a cheap #######.
I'll do me, you do you.Badmon, dunchues, gentleroger and 2 others Thank this. -
I always leave a tip. The showers are always clean, and I am grateful that I can use a clean shower. I also tip hotel maids and such too, and I think of it in that respect. Yeah, they make min wage, but you cant even rent an apartment on min wage these days. I think its #### rude not to tip for a shower where you've left body hair and God knows what else for someone else to clean up. I get my showers free most of the time, from points, but even when I pay for a shower, I tip. I make pretty good money as a trucker, and couldn't enjoy my job without those ppl who work hard for the few comforts of the road I count on.

Last week I drove 3 days on ice, starting on Thanksgiving day. I busted my ###, had a 3 stop load which meant tarping and untarping 3 times. I was ontime, and cheerful and friendly at each receiver.
How big of a tip do you suppose I got?MM71, Badmon, buddyd157 and 1 other person Thank this. -
maybe YOU want to tip, maybe YOU like to tip, maybe YOU think it's the right thing to do..
however, many of the rest of us think that the worker earns a salary no matter how minimal and does not deserve any such tip(s), barring the exception of the wait-staff, like the waitress or waiter..
THOSE people DO NOT get minimum wages, and as such, the tips they get go towards thier hourly pay, AND IF they do not meet the minimum wage requirements, then the restaurant PUTS IN the balance..!!
so THAT money, the restaurant puts in..??? comes from thier operational expenses, in effect, cutting into the profits THEY NEED to stay in business.
YOU may think other are cheap....(whatever word you used that was deleted) but we are not......it's a matter of personal preference to tip a wage earner or not, and what you really should have griped about..??
was the o/p coming here and what basically amounted to DEMANDING a tip from truckers...
DEMANDING a tip for services to me, is on a level with your overall response to others hereLast edited: Dec 12, 2019

So we make what? 20 bucks an hour or so? For labor that takes us a month in school to earn, plus knocks and bumps on the road. But that makes us more valuable as a person than the person cleaning up our poop and body hair for min wage? Like it's some huge piece of skin off your back to leave a buck or two for that person? Sorry, I treat it like hotel staff, and tip. Sorry if your crunchy buns are too tight. Min wage is not enough to live on, or none of us would be making the sacrifices to live on the road like we do. Sorry if you chose flatbed for the "better money" with more work. I do drop and hook box freight, so I basically sit on my butt and tour the country on the company's money. I can tip. I appreciate a clean shower at the end of the day.

how much of that 20, goes for your taxes? maybe into your retirement account?
maybe snacks while you are working, your daily coffee or tea of hot chocolate, or bottled water?
how much do you actually end up with when you get your final check?
probably only about $12.00 per hour, and God help YOU, if you work over time, where the taxes taken out are nearly doubled
the porter/janitor sought out that job, maybe one or 2 of those people are out on parole and had to get a job, to show the parole officer he/she has a job.
maybe it's a single parent, or a college kid or even a high school kid.
they GET A WAGE...PERIOD..
you must be "loose" with your money, but i know i ain't, never was, never will be....
unless YOU leave your name, address, phone number, email, and shoe size, that person WILL NEVER KNOW you from Adam.....Coffey, Odin's Rabid Dog and homeskillet Thank this. -
