    I think that water is going through the engine. I think its getting sucked into the exh some how then spit out the stack. I think all the DPF trucks have big holes in the piping after the DPF that pulls in air through a venturi type system that helps cool the exh as it goes out the stack/tailpipe.

    That’s probably it.

    Very very dumb idea submerging the transmission and rear ends in water.

    And this isn't a system that would would work well in our truck engines, as far as i know.
    This was pre-turbo and pre-fuel injection times. Normally aspirated only.
    It wasn't abut cooling the exhaust, but the intake.

    And water does not compress, so there was an added factor of compression ratio in the intake stream.
