What is the policy of each truck stop and truck stop chain when it comes to filling the refillable mug of a competitor?
Now, this may be a moot point in light of the merger of the Pilot and the Flying J brands.
So, let's go at this another way ... let's say that I bring in a TA refillable mug to a Flying J. It's their competitor, would the store personnel or let's say the shift manager state that I have to purchase their own brand of refillable mug to get a refill of soda?

The ones I gotten refills at didn't care whose cup you use. Some T/S's you get a free refill or cup of coffee when you fill up with fuel. Others do charge, also it depends on the casheir.
HFC and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
^^^^^^^^exactly! -
To answer your question from my perspective: I will charge for a refill or slide the FJ card for a reusable mug every time. If someone doesn't have any drinks left on their card, I just let them go. We don't care who's mug you're using. A new cup costs, so you get charged for it. However, if you are at my counter, I might give you some grief about bringing in the "enemy cup" and tease you about it, but that's just me. Gotta have a little fun at work. At the J we put the yellow stickers on new cups and you can also use those for refills. Just make sure the cashier sees the tape and realizes it's not a new cup. I think, all fuel stops/stores deal the same way with reusable mugs. It's a lot cheaper, than buying new cups.

Not anymore they dont. But the price they charge is reasonable if you can find a place to park to get to a Denneys these days. Too many no parking signs nowadays.HFC Thanks this. -
I find at a lot of places when you are at the counter with your coffee cup in hand willing to pay they ask if that`s all for you and if it is they will say "Have a nice Day" and I return "Thank You and you too" and out the door I go with a good start on the day.

i think it depends mostly on who's on duty when you go in there; My teamates would just go in there and fill up regardless of which truckstop we were at. They would even go into McDonalds and burger kink and just fill up and 99% of the time no-one would say anything to them.
My policy, however, is to always ask first.HFC Thanks this. -
Just to be clear I am NOT talking about the cups ... the REFILLABLE MUGS only.
So, it's yes I can get these refilled even though it may be a NON Flying J mug although I may have to endure some teasing. Okidoki.
Now, while I have you here ... what's your thoughts on the merger with Pilot and Flying J?
How is this going to wash with you and how will it directly impact you? I am concered for the average employee at the J.
Thanks.

Nope, I would not try to pull a fast one by going into a McDonald's or a Burger King to fill up my truck stop bought refillable mug with McDonald's or Burger King soda. I am only concerned with the truck stops accepting "competitor" or "enemy" mugs from other truck stops.

Good point with the Flying J's closing their restuarants then I am going to be planning to look for Plan B places to eat such as Denny's.
But you are right, I am thinking that most Denny's don't have parking for big rigs.
