I want the full 10 for the four days I work. Plus I believe he said if we finish in 8 hours we still get paid the whole 10.

But if we go over 10 hours we don’t get paid.

So its kind of different everywhere you go but it usually breaks down like this:

You said $23 per hour for x10 hrs = $230 dollars per day.

The less time it takes the more you make and visa versa.

If you burn up the route in 7 hrs typically they will add more to your route or routinely have you help someone who isn't as fast as you.

I have been in the solid waste industry for 23 years and can tell you these things:

    Never been laid off
    Never missed a bill
You gotta start at the bottom and move up
I know people in this industry that make 100 K a year with a high school diploma
Once you learn the industry you can go anywhere in the U.S. and get a job
You can rapidly move up the chain as there is a high turnover rate in this industry
And once you do this job it gets in your blood and you will love it
Pace yourself as repetitive movement and muscle strain will wear your body out quickly
Follow the rules, you are doing the 5th most dangerous job in the world

    Hope this info is helpfull.

Sounds to me your getting a flat day rate, They tell you $23hr but if you work 11 or 12 it only pays you for 10?

That’s how he explained it. So I assume it’s for only one route. But if I go help someone else on their route I get paid hourly again

Pay attention to how much of the job is automated. Residential refuse can be grueling work physically. I found it to be very stress free though. If you took care of business, it was a very laid back environment where I was. Keep in mind too you are out in every kind of weather (with few exceptions) no matter what. In residential work you are dealing with the general public so there are occasionally some challenges with pleasing people who can't easily be made happy. There are many folks who are friendly though and you become a part of their neighborhood/routine, etc. Overall it's not bad work.
