We have guys in their 70s out here doing it. So I wouldn't say too old lol. It's not hard work, just technical driving I suppose

LoL... those guys have been messing with 'open decks' of one sort of another, FOR MANY YEARS....... and MAJOR kudos, to all y'all. I'm a tank yank, become door slammer due to the unfortunate happenings of my previous employer. Currently with small'ish company, 300 power units, and I'm still a name, not a number.

Some of the asphalt gigs I had were super technical driving, on roads (and paths) similar to your pictures; in and out of the plants, and some deliveries were actually at 'county' something or others (forgot what its called) to 'off load' to the actual pavers. Auglaize County here in Ohio was memorable, haha!

I always tip my hat to you open'deck guys, no matter what y'all haul. Just never merged into my path.

Feel better, and be safe~ MUCH RESPECT~!!

So... I suppose it's time for another update lol.

Since my last post, I have continued hauling in the woods. I've been out since the beginning of this month for knee surgery and recovery from a work related injury though... Going stir crazy outside the truck haha

As of last week I got released for light duty work, so I've been Manning a scalehouse at a log yard we operate. It has been nice to be able to do some work but it's just not the same. Luckily recovery is going well, so I have high hopes for a quick return.

I had been under the impression that when I left for surgery I was giving up my Western star and rolling the dice on what truck I'd have when I get back, which would suck because I love that truck.

I stopped Friday to drop off my timecard from the scale house and visited the shop, where I got excellent news. My truck is in right now, almost fully disassembled. They are sandblasting and painting the frame, replacing the rusty headboard, all new tires, fixing all the little issues I had found that weren't necessary, and going through it too to bottom. I've been told by the operations manager that it's going to be waiting for my return because she's my truck!

I'm just curious... Is there any option for a slightly louder exhaust than stock without altering the appearance? I don't want straight pipes but I'd be interested in a change there... just a little bit. And it seems like if I want to make that upgrade they'd allow it

I'm just excited that I'm getting it back haha

How goes life for the rest of you?

Too old for a log truck, we run differt style log trucks, but that is about the only type of trucking that I can actually do by myself any more. Throw 2 wrappers and go. lol

You just have to love running a log truck in the woods, I just wish it paid more here, I have already told them I wouldn't be running my truck this winter. Kind of sucks, I was this loggers first trucker from the day he started logging.

Sorry to hear about your knee and I hope you heal fast and completely. Don't over estimate how much you have healed. Take it easy for a good, long while. Move like an old man, or like someone that had surgery aka "skillful injury".

Great news about the truck! Sounds like your boss values you.

Regarding the pipes. The down and dirty way to make them loud is to drop a few D cell batteries down the stacks. When the exhaust gets hot it melts the batteries, then the acid eats away at the muddling insulation...

...but I never told you all that.

Lets go ahead and rule out the battery acid lol. I just wasn't sure if there was an aftermarket muffler that had a little more flow and sound than factory. No halfassing it haha. But I appreciate the input for sure!

They're probably not going to go that far for me anyways... But if I'm going to be in the same truck for a long time I wouldn't be opposed to a few of my dollars going towards making it what I want. And I know if I pay for something like that they'll roll with it.

That is hilarious, I've never heard that before lol. I want to try it on something just because now but I don't want to buy a new muffler afterwards lol.

It's been a long time... But I guess I'll throw in an update lol

Returned to driving in mid October after my knee surgery. The knee still isn't 100% but I get around okay and it's not actively causing problems.

I elected to continue working in the woods primarily for now, with the potential to return to flatbedding when springtime comes. My goal at this point is to eventually purchase a truck (possibly the Western star I drive, since the boss does that stuff) and flatbed with it.

Until then I'm working close to home, primarily in the woods. But I've got a pretty sweet deal going on, that's allowing me to bounce around between woods, flatbedding, the shop, etc and learn as much as possible before I attempt to buy my own. The discussion of getting some experience hauling equipment on the lowbed as well as hauling wood chips in a box should be happening soon. The more I know the better

To sum it up. 21 months into my driving career, same carrier, I've had some setbacks but I couldn't really imagine doing any other kind of work for a living

Hope all is well with everyone who reads this
