    Thank you sir!

Decided I'm going to change the spacer plate. It measures in spec for thickness and flatness but its pitted a little bit much for my comfort level.

Might want to use this when you drop the head on. I just apply it to the very edge all the way around on the deck of block and top edge of the tin gasket. Be stingy with it. A little goes along way.

Cat actually calls for that in the installation procedure.

Just want to run this by you quick. I'm going to change the spacer plate due to the pitting I mentioned. Now I've pretty much got 0.004" across the board for liner potrusion. Current spacer plate measured in spec. If I change that spacer plate, in theory the liner potrusion should not change, correct? I'm still going to verify it all before I drop the head on of course.

At the end of the day, a guy really can't do anything to alter the protrusion since its a flat block deck, right?. Thinnest shim I can find available from Cat is 0.007". That'd put it way too high.

Shouldn't if you go with standard plate. You can get the thinner plate but that would probably put you up around .007 that is to much. Alot depends on how much you polished off the original plate. To shim the liners you will have to cut the counterbore in block to do that you can't just lay the shims on top of block deck. New plate recheck protrution.

So how would that work with this engine since there are no counterbores? The liner flange lays directly on the top deck.

Same as any 3406 you cut down in the block where the flange sits to a predetermined depth then shim to get the correct liner height. Do the new plate first and recheck protrution. It should be good since you had block decked.
