I am not surprised. I used to run that way more days than i am willing to count. Its uncountable. It only takes several to screw it up and the rest of them are collateral damage. Tsk.

With people (cars and trucks) treating the roadways like a NASCAR track, is anything else to be expected?

We all see the pileups in the races, yet no one seems to get the clue that it should not be the case on our streets and highways.

Sounds about right, Virginia drivers are terrible. Even a 10 car pile up would be ridiculous.

While cellphones are a contributing factor but i think the biggest issue with the roads nowadays is the fact that almost anyone can get a drivers license whether or not they truly understand or respect the rules of driving. The two most valuable driving assets are being courteous and keeping at least 2 car length between you and other vehicles. If everyone followed those rules i would bet my life that accidents like these would decrease dramatically. But when you have everyone in a rush combined with a selfish attitude like they are the most important person on the road, well these are the results. People should be denied a drivers license if they cant follow the rules of the road. Its a shame that some laws really are impossible to enforce. What we need are cameras every 2 miles to enforce the following distance and cellphone usage rules. If it catches you violating either, it takes a picture of your license plate and you get a nice ticket in the mail.

I bet in some areas, there are cameras every 2 miles. I remember the day cell phones came out, peoples driving changed almost overnight. I say, have a device that shuts off cell phones when the key is turned on. People would probably kill themselves anyway.

I stress to my wife a tractor trailer length at least. People are way to aggressive, drive way to fast, and do not keep following distance at all. I run just under the speed limit usually, and that 64 is 1 of the worst stretches of road. People fly.
