The wife and I were just talking about how we should get a camera system, and she expressed that its sad that we even have to think about it.

Guy I work with has a set up where he gets notifications on his phone when someone rings his doorbell, and he can access the camera feeds from his phone. He lives close enough to work that he'll run home whenever a package that he knows is expensive gets delivered so he can put it inside.

That will be a challenge. If the break has gotten oil on it, you'll want to heat it with a torch to cook the oil out of the pores, otherwise it won't weld worth a hoot. I use a small, hand held propane or mapp gas torch. Heat it, then acetone it, repeat until you don't get any more oil out.
Depending on how it's broken, clamping it to keep it straight will be the biggest hurdle. If you can clamp it, and still get to both sides of the break, that would be best. Groove each side a little over 1/4 of the way through and alternate weld passes from one side to the other. This way, you get some weld reinforcement on both sides.
I'd be interested to see the break.
You're on the right track with the cleaning. I use acetone and a dedicated stainless steel brush. Aluminum is the only thing that brush cleans.

Back when i was 19 and my lil bro was 16 handed over 1600 to this low life for a pound of the herb. Well he got ripped off but i knew the car he drove and the town 50 mi away where he lived.

Next morning told my dad what happened + my good ride or die pal from before kindergarten. 1st response from pops. Son don't you know the golden rule. Product 1st son never the other way. Lets go find this kid and get your money back or at least show the punk we can find him. So we did.

    To be continued
