I’m sure a few guys have done it and gotten away with it but that seems like a lot of trouble to go to when an emissions motor can be deleted by someone intending to be a scofflaw anyway, basically leaving you in the same spot. That is a bummer they are closing that loophole to do legal gliders but there will always be somebody selling one in the used market.
Would you drive for a small company that advertises their non-eld glider kit trucks?

Just talked with the recruiter. They pay 45 cents a mile and it is 1099. So that is maybe equivalent to 41 cents a mile (which is what I am making right now) payed as a w2?
Route will be something like from Kodak Tn to Detroit Mi, Atlanta Ga, and some place in Florida.Home for your 34 hour reset most weeks.
The positives are I will no longer be chaining and strapping down flatbeds since their main customer is swaggerty sausage company, they are about five miles from my home, and I get the convenience of paper logs.
I do not really know if it is worth it or not. I will go and see the place and hopefully be able to talk to some of their drivers before jumping on board here.
What do you guys think? -
They are also likely illegal on other stuff like pay, maintenance and such.
And .45 is more like .30 after additional taxes and required fees. You can do better at Swift....
Your CDL is too valuable to let them trash it for pennies...npok, Coffey, Long FLD and 1 other person Thank this. -

Remember as a 1099 you are stating you are one small business working with another, so you must meet all the small business taxes.
Around here it's a higher tax rate than personal taxes, plus required things like unemployment and various others. It's not just the extra social security.
You are missing the big point though. It's illegal from the get go. Why volunteer to work for a company running illegally in this day and age? It's too easy to work for a decent paying company that won't have you trash your CDL in a year so you can't work anywhere else...
If you need help looking for a legal job that pays well, I'm sure @Chinatown will be happy to help if you state what city home is, type of work desired, experience and any current dings (wrecks, citations, etc) on your CDL if any. You can be working at a legal place starting Monday if you put a little effort into it. -
I am switching trucks out tomorrow, to get back in one that does not require eld, so I can run more than 8 days a month if I want to.MagicMan22 Thanks this. -

There is a whole set of laws for the new eld rule exemptions, and it is written in black and white, plain for anyone to see.
MagicMan22 Thanks this.
