Sitting in maine. I can't get the truck to start. I did put in. Anti gel then drove about 12 miles. I was hoping that would help it blend in better. I always add it when in new England when it sits for a day or two.
And I switch the main power off.
I came down this morning and the ol' girl dont want to start. The electronic gauge is reading 12.8 volts. Its normal 14.1 0r 2.
I'm sitting in my car trying to charge it back up.
My question. Should the main power be on or off. Its currently on. I'm thinking it won't charge if its off?
Dead battery I think

Got it going. I had to walk away for a little bit I was getting fusterated.
Came back hook the cable back to it. Volts where at 13.8 fired right up. Thank you for your help. I noticed the positive charger post on the truck was moldy corroted. Will mild sand paper hurt it?
Its not my truck but I do try to take care of it. -
Remember volts and AMPS are not the same thing.
It's amps that start the truck. Most trucks need a Minimum 1,000 amps to crank.
If you had to jump it 1st check and clean the batteries/cables. That may fix it. If not need to have the batteries "LOAD TESTED" 1-2 of them may be bad..
As to the battery kill switch it just kills power to the truck. it can be on or off when charging as long as your cables are hooked to the batteriesrachi Thanks this. -
I'm in New York now 31 degress and she fired right up after sitting all night.Cabinover101 and rachi Thank this. -
Sandpaper won't hurt it but a Wire Brush works better
Cabinover101, flood and rachi Thank this. -
Also check the terminals on the master switch to make sure they're tight & clean.
Cabinover101 Thanks this. -
I always put additives in before fueling that helps mix them up well.
. Hot water will disolve that mess on the batteries, but always good to clean them up and check for proper securement. -
If batteries are tired they are going to absolutely fail the load test.
Buy new batteries Plural for the entire group. If one or two of three or four are sick, the others are not far behind.
When you get into negative 30 degrees leave her running. A few gallons of fuel wont hurt her none.
