How do you get a direct relationship with shippers without being known as a snake to the brokers?

Obviously the broker wants his piece of the pie, but we could also do without him, so how do you get around the brokers in a professional manner?

Get Yellow pages and start calling shippers or show up at their doors. You can get customers other than provided by your broker

If a shipper doesn’t like his broker and wants to deal directly with me, that’s fair game. I wouldn’t want to go out of my way to cut out a decent broker just trying to earn his living.

I agree but those same brokers will go out of their way to cut out a carrier for a cheaper price. Its all business at the end of the day

Start calling around, or just drop by and talk to the shipping office of places around home.

Maybe the bigger question is can someone cover all the load for the shipper ? That's the problem a broker solves for a shipper. One call and any load they have the broker makes sure someone will pick it up. If you can do that,t go see the shipper in person. I heard someone say offer to take the load that give the shipper the most trouble to get covered. That get you in the door if you can solve a problem for the shipper. Then you can work your way up to to more easy loads without a biker in between.

snowwy, rccarlson22 and D.Tibbitt Thank this.
