What size trucks do local produce companies run? Do they pay in cash or on payroll? Is it mostly refrigerated or on flatbed?

Payroll, you go get the cash. Minus the withholding.

Um, produce on a flatbed?:laughing-guffaw:I can just see Certified Grocers in Hammond( are they still there?) deal with that, but, a question is a question, and most local produce companies use like 24 ft refrigerated straight trucks, due to the fact, alleys are no place for semis. They are all company drivers on a payroll.

You wouldn’t be peddling produce to the stores and restaurants on a flatbed, but many onions are shipped on flatbeds from the farm to the produce terminals. Most produce distributors I have seen use very small straight refer trucks to get the products to the final customer as they are often in very tight areas. Most food service distributors use a 28 foot pup trailer and single axle tractor, but some of their routes use a straight truck.

I've seen open trailers hauling oranges, but in all my years, I've never seen flatbeds at a grocery warehouse.

Those are farm trucks going to amd from the farms. They are not delivering the produce to the stores. They take it to a main dc that then distributes it to various stores. Similar to how target dc takes alot of bulk freight from otr companies like trailer full of laundry detergent. Then the local target store drivers may deliver a mix of items from that dc to a specific store. Target also food dc worked in similar fashion.

Yes yes and yes. I am aware of that.

You see... I have a habit of long winded posts. I have been working on brevity. If its possible for you and others to share the long typing teaching the OP how we transfer from Farm to store alls well.
