Howdy,
USX will give you the miles if you want it if your a solo, I just turned down a load from Mt. Vernon IL going to Laredo TX for monday from 7am-2pm window, 1084miles, As far as where you live...if they dont have any contracts at that point in time in a specific area then they will tell you there are none availabe, or the positions are full with other drivers ( which is true) can see their daycabs or full condos parked at a drop yard, terminal etc.
There has only been 1 time that I have know USX giving drivers options ( not really forcing), that was mainly with ppl living in FL...1) drive team or 2)Lease your own truck. but that was almost 4-5yrs ago now. due to the outrageous fuel prices at the time.
Home time is usually 2weeks out 2in. and the training is dependant on your experience as the previous poster stated...your put into a truck with a trainer and have to complete 150hrs of drivetime, with the trainer riding shotgun. then you will be upgraded to a firstseat driver.
Well i hope this has helped answer any questions you have.

You will need a refresher course 1st.
Then company training 1-5 weeks
Almost every company will make you do this because of how long you've been off the road.
After that yes you can go solo unless you live in FL or the left coast -
I have been driving local for 6 years as a line-haul driver for a foodservice company & thinking about going to the USX WM dedicated account. I`m home everyday now but i want to experience otr before i get too old, will i get to go solo after orientation or have to ride with a trainer since i actually never have driven to other states, never spent a night in a truck or fueled up at truckstops, etc.

You'd go solo. I wouldn't consider Walmart dedicated the account you want to do if you want to experience OTR.
In all honesty, you aren't missing anything. Stay at your local company.Exit310 Thanks this. -
