Truck driving has strengthed my relationships in the people that love me. They are all proud of me and know how hard it is out here. And when i come home it is like being on vacation. If u go home and it dont feel right then it wasnt a very good relartionship to begin with. Everytime i leave the house its the only thing that puts tears in my eyes , nothing else could make me cry but leaving the house always does , knowing everything that happens on the road it could be my last hometime. Life is about relationships and as long as u build with the right people and people that care about u then truck driving should build ur relationship rather than tear it down.
stayinback, asphaltcowboy4x4 and kemosabi49 Thank this. -
For many in the industry they come into trucking not really understanding that OTR is as much of a lifestyle choice as it is a job choice - and many can't adjust to the change of being away from home.
I'm fortunate that my whole career has involved traveling and my friends are dispersed around the country so I'm now able to visit many of them. Of course my wife doesn't not get to see me as much as we should and eventually this will lead to me finding something different, until then I use a combination of being home longer (I've been in the game long enough to work for a good company with liberal hometime) and having her come out on the road for me.
For sure this is not the right gig for everyone and being away is something that one should consider before entering the OTR world. With how busy we all are getting though, sometimes even being local still results in lost friendships. Good luck -
